Thủ quân bật khóc khi đá trượt phạt đền, người chơi tự tạo cầu thủ và “lên chân” sau nhiều mùa bóng, đó là những gì sẽ có trong FIFA 09.
Gameplay sẽ được thay đổi rõ rệt trong việc các cầu thủ rê dắt, chuyền, tì đè v..v… Nhờ những cải tiến đồ họa, tốc độ game sẽ được đẩy lên cao và thật hơn so với các phiên bản trước, và điều này sẽ tác động lớn đến lối chơi của FIFA 09.
Game thủ có thể điều khiến cầu thủ giữ bóng không bị ngã khi bị đối phương chuồi bóng, nếu cùng xoạc không tác động quá mạnh vào chân cầu thủ. Thủ môn sẽ quờ tay về phía sau để tìm bóng nếu đón trượt cú sút.
Thủ quân của đội bóng có thể sẽ bật khóc nếu đá trượt một cú phạt đền quyết định, và tiếng khóc sẽ rất thật.
Ở chế độ chơi Be A Pro, người chơi có thể tạo cầu thủ thi đấu và thu lượm kinh nghiệm để “lên chân” qua các mùa giải. Sẽ có nhiều sự lựa chọn hơn cho game thủ trong việc điều chỉnh đội hình chiến thuật tấn công hoặc phòng ngự… để làm phong phú hơn lối chơi.
