East of Eden là bộ phim trải dài theo lịch sử xây dựng kinh tế Hàn Quốc từ năm 1960 đến năm 2000,kể về câu chuyện giữa hai người đàn ông cùng sinh một ngày tại một bệnh viện và bị hoán đổi cho nhau,từ đó cuộc đời của mỗi người đã hoàn toàn thay đổi.
Trở về những năm 1960,xã hội dầy biến động,Lee Ki-Cheol một sinh viên đầy triển vọng,đã bị rơi vào vòng tội lỗi khi người yêu của anh mình phải chết thay cho anh.Sau đó,anh rời bỏ tới mỏ than của Kang Won.Lee Ki-Cheol cố gắng giúp cho Shin Tae-Hwan (Yoo Dong-Geun) từ bỏ những hành động tội lỗi của Shin.Nhưng rồi lại bị Shin Tae Hwan tiêu diệt.
Người con trai lớn nhất của Lee Ki-Cheol,Lee Dong Chul (Song Seung Hun) đã chứng kiến tất cả,và thề rằng có ngày anh sẽ trả thù.Nhưng vào thời điểm đó,có một bí mật mà tất cả mọi người đều không biết.Tại bệnh viện TaeBaek,Miae người bị Shin hãm hiếp đã đổi đứa con của Shin Tae Hwan và Lee Ki Cheol. Và thời gian qua đi,hai đứa trẻ lớn lên trong sự gian dối từ ngày chúng mới ra đời.Con trai thật của Lee Ki Cheol lớn lên với cái tên Shin Myung-Hoon,còn con trai thật của Shin Tae Hwan thì sống với cái tên Lee Dong-Wook.Lee Dong-Wook sinh ra và nghe những lời thề về câu chuyện trả thù cho người cha của mình từ lời người anh trai.Anh thi đỗ vào ngành luật tại trường đại học Seoul và trở thành công tố viên luật pháp.
