Bizarre Creations là hãng phát triển đặc biệt thành công trong thể loại game đua xe. Nổi lên từ trò chơi Metropolis Street Racer trên máy Dreamcast, tên tuổi của Bizarre Creations thực sự tỏa sáng với loạt game 4 phần Project Gotham Racing độc quyền cho Xbox và Xbox 360.

Sau đó, hãng được tập đoàn Activision thâu tóm, để lại thương hiệu PGR cho Microsoft Game Studios (nơi giữ bản quyền loạt game) và đầu tư vào một game đua xe mới toanh, có tên là Blur.

Với sự quản lý của Activision, Bizarre Creations cũng từ bỏ luôn phong cách làm game độc quyền cho một hệ máy khi khằng định Blur sẽ xuất hiện đầy đủ trên Xbox 360, PS3 và cả PC. Với những ai từng chơi qua loạt game PGR, hẳn đều rất ấn tượng với lối chơi arcade đơn giản nhưng vẫn cực kỳ thử thách, đòi hỏi kỹ năng cao của game thủ, cùng với những bối cảnh là những thành phố có thật giống y hệt ngoài đời, và các chiếc xe hơi bóng bẩy mua bản quyền từ những thương hiệu hàng đầu thế giới. Với Blur, hãng sẽ vẫn giữ lại tất cả những yếu tố trên, ngoại trừ lối chơi được thay đổi theo một hướng đi hoàn toàn mới

Nói một cách ngắn gọn, lối chơi đua xe của Blur vẫn sẽ đi theo phong cách arcade dễ làm quen, dễ chơi (nhưng để chơi hay thì chưa chắc à nghen!). Thế nhưng, các màn đua xe trong Blur sẽ không chỉ là sự so tài tay nghề lái xe giữa các tay đua nữa, mà thêm vào đó là những màn hành động đối kháng quyết liệt ngay trên đường đua. Phong cách lối chơi của Blur là đua xe chiến đấu (theo đúng quảng cáo của hãng phát triển là “Racing Battle”), với các món đồ tăng lực, vũ khí “ăn” được trong khi đua, rất giống với loạt game Mario Kart đầy vui nhộn của hãng Nintendo

Các màn đua trong Blur diễn ra nhanh, tốc độ giống y hệt các game đua xe cùng thể loại như Need for Speed hay Burnout. Trong game, bạn vẫn sẽ phải vận dụng những kỹ năng chơi game đua xe của mình để lèo lái chiếc xe về đến đích trước những đối thủ khác, như tăng tốc, vượt chướng ngại vật, bo cua, lết bánh... Trong khi đua, trên đường sẽ xuất hiện rải rác các món đồ mà game gọi là “Power-Up”, “ăn” được một món là bạn trữ được cho mình một tuyệt chiêu chiến đấu nào đó. Ban đầu game sẽ cung cấp cho bạn 2 ô chứa tuyệt chiêu, nhưng về sau sẽ đưa ra lựa chọn, khi chọn bạn mở thêm nhiều ô nữa.

Các chiêu thức chiến đấu trong Blur bao gồm những loại sau đây: Shock: tung ra một trường điện từ khiến những chiếc xe dính đòn ngay lập tức bị mất lái. Barge: tung ra một lực cực mạnh ra hai bên hông xe, đẩy những đối thủ đang so kè ra khỏi đường đua. Shunt: bắn ra một loại đạn để tiêu diệt đối thủ ở trước mặt. Mines: thả mìn lại sau lưng để các đối thủ đang đuổi theo “dính chấu”. Nitro: cái này thì quá quen rồi, giúp bạn tăng tốc cực nhanh trong thời gian ngắn. Cuối cùng là chiêu Repair: giúp bạn sửa chữa nhanh chiếc xe đang hỏng hóc của mình. Các chiếc xe trong Blur đều “có thanh máu” của riêng mình, nên nếu bạn để “dính đòn” quá nhiều mà không kịp sửa chữa thì khả năng bỏ cuộc sớm là rất cao đấy


Điểm hấp dẫn trong lối chơi chiến đấu của Blur không đơn thuần chỉ là lái xe, “ăn đồ” rồi “nã” vào đối phương, mà còn nằm ở cách bạn phối hợp, sử dụng chúng như thế nào để đạt hiệu quả cao nhất. Trong dòng game PGR, có một hệ thống tính điểm gọi là Kudo dùng để đo lường tài nghệ lái xe điêu luyện của người chơi. Trong Blur cũng có một hệ thống tương tự, dùng để đo lường mức độ yêu thích của các fan hâm mộ dành cho bạn khi thực hiện những chiêu thức tấn công các đối thủ trên đường đua. Chẳng hạn như bạn lựa chọn thời điểm sử dụng chiêu Shock như thế nào để vô hiệu hoá nhiều xe xung quanh nhất, hay là dùng Shunt để bắn nạn nhân của mình bay lên và đập vào… một nạn nhân khác. Khi đã có nhiều hơn 2 ô chứa tuyệt chiêu, thậm chí bạn còn có thể sử dụng chúng kết hợp cùng 1 lúc để tạo hiệu quả cao hơn, ví dụ như “ăn” 3 Nitro cùng lúc để biến chiếc xe phóng nhanh như… tên lửa, hay kết hợp nhiều chiêu tấn công tung ra đồng thời để tạo ra những màn tàn phá hoành tráng nhất


Một lối chơi đầy kịch tính, hào hứng như vậy chắc chắn sẽ thu hút các game thủ của Need for Speed và Burnout. Tuy vậy, các game thủ trung thành với PGR cũng sẽ được thỏa mãn khi với Blur, những tính năng đặc sắc của dòng game kia vẫn được giữ lại. Đặc biệt là các màn đua vẫn được diễn ra tại những thành phố nổi tiếng có thật, được dựng lại rất thực tế và chi tiết. Được tiết lộ cho đến lúc này là 2 thành phố Los Angeles của Mỹ và London của Anh. Thêm vào đó, đội ngũ xe pháo trong game cũng đều là những thương hiệu xe nổi tiếng được mua bản quyền đầy đủ.


Trong các hình ảnh và đoạn phim giới thiệu, chúng ta có thể thấy được những chiếc xe như Mercedes C-Class, BMW M3, Dodge Challenger và thậm chí chiếc xe bán tải Ford Transit nữa. Đặc biệt, dù mua bản quyền, nhưng Bizarre Creations cũng được toàn quyền thể hiện các kiểu hư hỏng trên các chiếc xe này, một điều mà không phải game đua xe có mua bản quyền nào cũng được phép thể hiện. Các hiệu ứng hư hại xe cộ trong Blur được làm rất chi tiết, thực tế và đúng nguyên tắc vật lý không thua gì loạt game đua xe cũng rất “dữ dội” là Burnout của hãng Criterion.Thế nhưng, xem những chiếc xe có thật trong thực tế so kè, chiến đấu với nhau đến “bầm dập thân thể” vẫn thú vị và hào hứng hơn nhiều so với những chiếc “xế hộp tự chế” của Burnout

Với Blur, hãng sản xuất đặt mục tiêu làm hài lòng cả với các game thủ chơi offline lẫn online. Với phần chơi cốt truyện offline, bạn sẽ được chứng kiến một giao diện và bảng quản lý nhiệm vụ mang dáng dấp của các mạng xã hội nổi tiếng như Facebook, Twitter hay YouTube, cùng với với việc hỗ trợ chơi trên cùng một máy chia màn hình cho 4 người. Còn với chế độ chơi online, bạn sẽ được thử cảm giác với những màn đua ác liệt lên đến… 20 đối thủ cùng so tài. Hơn nữa, các tùy chọn tạo màn sẽ được thiết kế rất phong phú (chẳng hạn như cho phép dùng các Power-Up khi đua hay không) cùng chế độ phân loại game thủ rõ ràng chắc chắn sẽ làm hài lòng các game thủ từ nghiệp dư cho đến “lão làng”

Với những tính năng mới lạ, hấp dẫn, lại do một tên tuổi lẫy lừng trong làng game đua xe thực hiện, Blur có nhiều cơ hội để trở thành một “ngôi sao” mới trong thể loại game đua xe arcade. Chắc chắn đây cũng sẽ là “con át chủ bài” mà Activision sẽ dùng để “dằn mặt” đối thủ EA, khi mà thương hiệu Need for Speed của hãng này vẫn đang đi xuống không phanh và chưa có dấu hiệu hồi phục.
